Creative Ways to Propose Marriage

So you've found the perfect engagement ring and are summoning up the courage to propose. How to do it? Down on one knee in a romantic location? Across the candlelight at an expensive restaurant? Here we will offer a variety of methods, from the thoughtful to the fun, contributed by customers and members of the public.

Especially for the festive season, here are a few Christmas ideas:

Buy her something for Christmas that she really doesn't want, like a toaster or something to clean the house with. Hide the ring box inside. You may have to encourage her to actually open the unwanted gift first though!

Buy a Christmas bauble which is transparent and opens up. Place the ring inside and put the bauble on the Christmas tree - and wait to see if she notices!

Put the ring box in a cracker and leave it at her place at the Christmas dinner table.

Have Santa give it to her!

Other ideas:

Set her a treasure hunt and when she gets to the final destination, be down on one knee with the ring - or put it in something she has to find.

If you can cook or know someone who can, make her a fortune cookie with the slip of paper containing the proposal.

Take her on holiday and hide the ring box in her suitcase. Be there when she opens it so you can get down on one knee, preferably with a rose in your teeth!

Tie a bow around a teddy bear or something she loves and attach the ring to it.

Cook her a nice meal, or take her somewhere expensive for a night out. An oldie but a goodie!

Hire a billboard or place an advert in the newspaper - jsut make sure you're with her when she reads it!
