Gemstones

All gemstones sold on this website are genuine unless otherwise stated. We do not stock laboratory created gemstones or diamonds, preferring the beauty and history of natural gemstones. This does not necessarily indicate that they are free from inclusions: in fact, truly flawless gemstones are considered rather rare since the accumulation of geological influences on the gemstone during its formation often leads to slight imperfections. The inclusions are measured in terms of the "clarity" of the gemstone.

Carats of gold

The purity of an item made from gold is expressed in terms of its carat. The purer the gold, the higher the carat, with 24-carat being totally pure. Most jewellery is made from a much lower carat than 24-carat gold since a lower carat increases the hardness of the metal. The common carats of gold available in most British shops are 9-carat and 18-carat. Aspiration Jewellery sells items in various different carats of gold, including 9-carat, 10-carat, 14-carat and 18-carat. As such, most of our items are made from a higher content of gold than is the case with the 9-carat jewellery most readily available in the UK.

It should be noted that vintage and antique items are frequently composed of rarer carats such as 15-carat gold. They are also often unmarked and therefore bear no hallmarks but where a description in our website indicates that an item is gold, it will be, to our knowledge, real gold as advertised. There are methods available to test items for gold so any items can be verified in this way notwithstanding the lack of a hallmark.

Ring sizes

All of our rings which are in stock (detailed as available for ‘immediate delivery’ in the item description) are currently in the most common women’s sizes of L-N, unless otherwise stated. We only stock rings which are easily adjustable by your local jeweller for a small fee.

Rings which are not immediately available can be ordered in most sizes. For these items, please state your size on the order form.
